3 Qualities that Make you Coachable

Being coachable helps you get the most out of hiring a coach. But not everyone is coachable.

The aim of coaching, from my perspective as a Certified Health & Wellness Coach, is to get you from where you are, to where you want to be. With support, guidance, and accountability.

However, not everyone will benefit from coaching. You must be “coachable” to get the most from coaching.

Here are 3 qualities that make you coachable.

1. Open-minded

The willingness to consider something new is a key to making meaningful change.

If you're only willing to do the same things you've done before, you aren't ready for coaching.

Coaching facilitates positive change in your life. Change = make different.

In a healthy coaching relationship, you will be guided to think, feel, and behave differently than you have before. An effective coach with help you feel deeply supported through this vulnerable process.

2. Self-reflective

An effective coach asks questions that foster deep self-reflection.

Self-reflection is at the root of all transformation.

It is the ability to look inward without judgment to evaluate, make meaning, and adjust your thoughts/feelings/behaviors as needed.

You are responsible for your reflection; your coach is your guide & support.

3. Honest

If you're not willing to be honest with yourself, it will be very difficult to be honest with your coach.

A coaching relationship is most effective when it is built on the honest truth.

An effective coach will create safety for you to share honestly.

It is ultimately your choice to be honest.

*TIP: hire a coach who has a clear privacy & confidentiality agreement. So you can feel more comfortable sharing honestly.
